WHAT THEY NEED

A strong-bodied key forward should be on the cards, along with a key defender to fill the bookend roles vacated by the retirements of Craig Bolton and Daniel Bradshaw. Another speedy, outside midfielder who can break the lines wouldn’t go astray either.

COOPS’ VERDICT

They’ve had a good year the Swans. Inconsistent performances have hurt them, particularly early in the year and the continued struggle for wins in Melbourne on the big stage is still a hurdle they need to overcome. John Longmire performed admirably in his first full season in charge, since taking over from Paul Roos, taking the Swans through to a losing semi-final against Hawthorn. The development and introduction of youngsters Sam Reid, Lewis Jetta, Gary Rohan, Nick Smith, Alex Johnson and Luke Parker was encouraging, while Adam Goodes and Shane Mumford enjoyed stellar seasons. Plenty to build on for 2012.

TOMORROW: CARLTON
