Scorchers hold off gallant HeatPosted: December 29, 2011
BRISBANE Heat have slumped to their third straight loss in the KFC T20 Big Bash League with a 10-run defeat at the hands of Perth Scorchers.
The Scorchers got off to a flying start with Herschelle Gibbs (38) and Marcus North (40) piling on 80 for the first wicket.
But the loss of the openers in quick succession halted their momentum, with Mitchell Marsh (24) the only other batsman to provide any real contribution to the total of 8-162.
Daniel Christian and Michael Neser were the pick of the Heat’s bowlers, taking 2-27 and 2-23 respectively.
The Heat made steady progress towards their target after losing Chris Lynn early on – Matthew Hayden and Peter Forrest combining for a 43-run stand.
Forrest kept the Heat in the game with a well-made 59, but any chance of a Brisbane victory faded when he departed in the 17th over.
The Heat eventually fell 10 runs short, finishing at 6-152
