AFL Victoria – VFL Reporter (Voluntary)

This involved:

  • Attending weekly VFL matches and providing a match report for the VFL website

February-October 2013

Football Nation – Reporter (Voluntary)

This involved:

  • Covering an AFL match each round and producing a detailed match report
  • Covering the VFL and in particular news for the Casey Scorpions and the Northern Blues

May-October 2012

Crocmedia – Intern (Unpaid)

This involved:

  • Attend and record AFL press conferences every Monday
  • Edit AFL press audio using Audacity, followed by putting together and emailing the four cut up grabs to company producers who will then use it for their productions or may on-sell it to other radio and tv networks
  • Produce bios, briefing notes and research statistics on specific sporting topics for company tv and radio productions, such as the daily radio program, SportsDay

May-October 2012

98.7 RPPFM – Reporter (Voluntary)

This involved:

  • Providing regular updates of AFL news on “The Voice of Sport”, RPP’s Saturday morning sport show
  • Occasional involvement in live broadcasts of the MPNFL

Feb 2011-2012:

Media Liaison role assisting and working with the Media and Public Relations Manager, Stephen Gray, at Queensland Cricket – Allan Border Field, Albion, Qld.

This involved:

  • Providing regular media releases on cricket news throughout Queensland, interstate and internationally
  • Researching cricket news and put articles together for the Qld Cricket website
  • Website development, including an introductory session on using a Content Management System
  • Covered cricket matches and provided match reports for the second half of the 2010/11 Cricket season before the 2011/12 season – Sheffield Shield, Ryobi One Day Cup, Brisbane Heat’s inaugural first season in the Big Bash League, as well as the Australia A v New Zealand series at Allan Border Field
  • Producing bios and briefing notes for cricket functions
  • Observed what takes place with a major media announcement, including the setting up of a media conference facility – where in the this case, the announcement that Darren Lehmann was the new head coach of the Queensland Bulls and the inaugural coach of the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League

Nov-Dec 2010:

Held the interim role of Media Manager for Cricket PNG – Amini Park, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

This involved:

  • Liaising all PNG media, including our social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
  • Produced and sent out media releases daily
  • Promoted and marketed cricket throughout PNG, developing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Handled all media for the annual Legends Twenty20 Big Bash Tournament, which included a major press conference at Port Moresby International Airport where Sri-Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan and the former National Coach of the PNG Barramundi’s, Andy Bichel, were fronted by the media
  • Worked in a multi-cultural environment, which included working with PNG locals but also being a part of the local community

Jan 2008-Sep 2011:

The AFL National Correspondent Reporter for Komatsu Sports, an hour and a half Saturday morning sports radio program, broadcasted by FM100 Community Radio – Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

This involved:

  • Providing weekly AFL previews, reviews and breaking news for the whole season that was broadcasted to an audience of approximately 2.5 million people throughout Papua New Guinea
  • Producing interviews with former AFL stars Wayne Carey, Austinn Jones and Doug Hawkins, as well as local PNG athletes

Feb-Aug 2007:

Held the role of Sports Editor whilst completing my VCE studies for our Student Newsletter at Lighthouse Christian College – Keysborough

This involved:

  • Producing match reports for all sporting events within the school community
  • Interviewing key personnel – coaches, players, teachers and students
  • Producing major previews for upcoming sporting events, with statistics of past results and expectations, along with quotes from conducted interviews

July 2007-Sep 2010:

Was a Sports Commentator for the Victorian Football League coverage on 97.7FM Casey Community Radio

This involved:

  • Providing special comments before, during and after games for the station’s VFL coverage
  • Also acted as the boundary rider, interviewing players and coaches pre and post match
  • Was a regular panellist every Saturday morning for The VFL Footy Show, broadcasted live from the Cranbourne studio

March-June 2007

Held a cadetship with Footy Heads, a newsbreaking AFL website as a temporary volunteer assignment

This involved:

  • Sourcing breaking news and topical sporting features for publishing to the Footy Heads website used for main stream media, reporting primarily on the Seven Network

March 2007-Oct 2008

Held the position of Media Manager at VFL club, Port Melbourne

This involved:

  • Providing match reports for the club seniors and reserves fixture matches, published on the club’s website and also appeared in several editions of The Leader locally
  • Conducting media interviews with several players and coaching staff to add depth and substance to the weekly match reports
  • Also acted as the Ground Announcer at North Port Oval, Port Melbourne’s home ground
